it's 2012 - the final year of humanity, allegedly. people with smartphones like to take pictures with them, and those of us who like food like to take pictures of our meals and upload them onto various social media outlets for the world to see. i, myself, do it here, here, and here.
i visited my brother in chicago recently, and every day was a feast (of sorts)... this is my photo story.
upon arrival, my brother took me to dinner at longtime chicagoan roger ebert's favorite - steak 'n shake
after the 5 hour plane ride, 1.5 hour train ride, and the 30 minute bus ride to get to this place, i was a little out of it and forgot to take a picture of my actual meal when it came out (which wasn't the fritos chili cheese steakburger, unfortunately). in case you're interested (which i can only assume you are since you're taking the time to read this post), i had the guacamole steakburger and a chocolate-covered strawberry shake.
day 2: brunch at the chicago diner
day 3: brunch at the uptowner café
en route to dessert...
at margie's candies
day 4: dinner at another midwest/east coast staple, white castle
day 5: lunch at david burke's primehouse
coincidentally, it was restaurant week in chicago (i swear i didn't know). thanks to that, we were able to take advantage of an awesome deal for a 3-course prix fixe lunch here.
while trying to walk it off...
day 6: dinner at crisp
day 7: dinner at café hoang
day 8: lunch at hot doug's
day 9: snow day. we decided to spend the day indoors. our hamburger helper dinner could only be complemented with my own special dessert - salted twix.
it really did snow.
even these pigeons thought it was too cold to venture out.
finally, my trip had come to an end. on my last day, my brother and i revisited crisp (it really is a great place for korean-style chicken), and then i returned the way i came.
hasta la vista, chicago!
